Capiz shells: They are the outer shells of the mollske (placuna placenta or window oyster), a marine mollusk. Capiz shells are named after their original habitat, the coastal waters near the town of Capiz on the Filipino island of Panay. Thoroughly cleaned, the shell walls are naturally translucent and offer a unique interplay of light and color when painted or dyed with the help of a tea light, for example.
